Entrepreneurship and You: How Learning More Made Steph Korey an Entrepreneurial Legend

There are essentially two certainties in life: there are things we know and things that we do not know. As an entrepreneur, Steph Korey understands that her job is to constantly strive for success and she does so by underscoring this key piece of information. Steph Korey, the founder of the international lifestyle brand Away, says that a common trap for entrepreneurs is, “They start to think that they know so much because they do know so much more than they used to.”
In order to constantly strive for success in a field that can quickly leave people behind, Steph Korey believes that it is important to retain a sense of curiosity to help engineer progress in your life and career.
Curiosity and Collaborations
Steph Korey has enjoyed a multifaceted career spanning many different industries and roles. Throughout her work, curiosity has been a reinforcing guideline that has kept her on track and moving toward her goals. Korey says that much of her curiosity comes from her multicultural home, having lived with relatives overseas while absorbing her Middle Eastern and Romanian roots.
While absorbing her cultural roots, Steph Korey was able to expand her mind and fully focus on new concepts and ideas. Having a “global perspective”, as Korey puts it, allows entrepreneurs to utilize their curiosity to achieve new collaborations that they might not otherwise have considered.
Korey says, “Understanding people different from me really shaped my worldview, my perspective, and my career.”
Of course, collaborations in the workplace don’t have to originate from your personal roots. Curiosity itself can become a fantastic motivator for pushing new limits or engineering new products. A curious and creative development and marketing team will be more likely to discover ideas that lead to successful outcomes.
Accepting Risk and Potential Failure
An expert in their field will be able to accurately suss out risk and failure through analysis. A curious entrepreneur can take these same risks while mentally prepared for the potential of failure. A curious entrepreneur is skilled at wielding potential benefits and even downsides when looking at potential actions.
Entrepreneurs can become particularly effective when they dislodge the fear of failure from their minds. An entrepreneur who embraces a healthy sense of curiosity will be able to overcome apprehension by instead focusing on the excitement of their potential idea.
We can see how a risk/cost analysis can lead to improved results for a business. Curious entrepreneurs are simply more willing to take those risks.
