Daniel Shin is the founder and co-CEO of the company PortOne Global, a business dedicated to expanding payment processing throughout the Asian markets. An entrepreneur with a number of different concepts in development, Daniel Shin has garnered a reputation for providing his teams with collaborative communication and an environment conducive to success.
Finding high levels of accomplishment in the rapidly expanding e-commerce field requires dedication and a willingness to learn on the go. Shin took all of the lessons that he learned over the better part of the past decade before sharing them with his followers.
Daniel Shin is best known as the founder of the pioneering companies PortOne Global, Ticket Monster, and Fast Track Asia. With a focus on new markets and a habit of finding the right investment opportunities at the right times, Shin has enjoyed a prosperous run over the past decade as an angel investor in fintech and e-commerce.
In order to continue growing at the rate that he has enjoyed, Shin has paid careful attention to a few different concepts while building his businesses and brands.
Prioritize Your Daily Tasks
There is no end to the work that can be done in a day, so Shin suggests making a list of the most important tasks that must be accomplished. By developing a small list of the most important tasks, Shin finds that he can continue making forward progress while delegating less important tasks to other members of his team.
In delegating and prioritizing his work, Shin finds he has more space and time to pursue other endeavors. Shin says that prior to this change in mindset that his day was always bogged down with random calls and meetings.
Find the Right Team
While it can be easy to find an applicant for your open position, it can be much harder to find the right applicant for the team. Hiring the best people requires understanding how those individuals fit within your team. Shin suggests hiring people that are “talented” and “like-minded” so they can add their passion to your efforts, helping to execute ideas along the way.
Daniel Shin says he is always focused on sourcing great talent while developing the tools and techniques to retain them. Shin added to this subject, “When the right people are in the room with you, ideas naturally come to life without much friction.”
Embrace Unique Opportunities
Daniel Shin was able to find success with PortOne Global and TicketMonster because he was willing to take risks by embracing unique opportunities. Shin embraced TMON in 2010 before growing the company to a roster of more than 1,300 people. More than 20% of the Korean population used the platform at least once per year since the company’s founding.
Unique opportunities are great, but Shin also understands that strategy is important. Shin says about going back in time, “I would choose where to fight and where to retreat and strategically pick my battles with the long term in mind.”
